We know university applications can feel complex. It’s natural to have questions about personal statements, interviews, and application formats. Here you’ll find the most common questions we receive both about Logos Education as well as university applications from parents and students.
Q1: What services does Logos Education offer?
Logos Education offers US and UK admissions support to help students best prepare themselves for their university admissions. We provide personal statement coaching, one-to-one consulting, interview preparation, as well as a handful of short courses and books to introduce you to the application process.
Q2: Do you write or ghost-edit personal statements for students?
No. We provide suggestions, structures, and feedback on how you can improve your application. However, it is important that you keep your authentic voice and are fully responsible for the material you submit. Thus, any feedback we provide balances both your voice as well as preparing a portfolio which best aligns with university goals.
Q3: How do one-to-one sessions work?
You tell us your application goals as well as what you want to specifically work on during the session. Having agreed a focus, we work through the material and leave you with clear next steps and edits to make. These sessions are most effective for working through essays, clearing up confusion, and preparing for interviews.
Q4: Do you support both UK (UCAS) and US (Common App and UCs) applications?
Yes. We coach both UCAS and US applications, giving you advice on how you can best develop a portfolio for both application systems and what they look for.
Q5: Do you work with students under 18?
Yes. We work with students under 18 with clear parent/ guardian consent and online norms. Sessions and communications are transparent for families.
Q6: How do you balance the different requirements for US and UK applications?
At Logos Education, we recognise the vast difference in structure and expectations between US and UK universities. In light of such differences, Logos Education places heavy emphasis on a holistic upbringing, with focus not only on academic development and the preparation of good application materials, but also a focus on one’s priorities in high school. We want to learn more about individual students and their activities to help them foster their hobbies in such a way that it best reflects the needs of both UK and US admissions teams.
Q7: How should I choose which extracurriculars to include?
As discussed above in Q6, the extracurriculars behind a successful UK application may look different from those behind a successful US application. Thus, we help you work through your high school priorities based on what universities you intend to apply to such that you can develop the best portfolio of extracurriculars.
Q8: What makes a strong personal statement (UK) stand out?
A strong personal statement is characterised by clear presentation and evidence of academic achievements. It is important to show what has been learnt both within the classroom and outside of it through personal research.
Q9: What do Oxbridge interviews look for?
Counter-intuitively, Oxbridge interviews are not a test of knowledge. While anything risen in your personal statement is ‘fair-game’, interviewers are more concerned about how you engage with complex questions and critical thinking. Thus, it is important to learn how to respond when someone asks you questions that you may not know the answer to. They are looking for curiosity and flexibility, not someone with all the answers.
Q10: When should I start preparing for my application?
It is important to get started as early as you can. Given the hyper-competitive scene of university applications, it is important to put together a strong portfolio with a range of different extracurriculars, research, and leadership achievements. These achievements cannot be accomplished over-night, but require months if not years of preparation. While there is never a ‘too-late’, especially for UK applications, the earlier you get started and are mindful about your application, the more likely you will be to succeed.
